Duties And Responsibilities

The Green Teams/Green Office Coordinator position is part of the Occupant Engagement Team at the Harvard Green Campus Initiative. The Coordinator will be focused on developing Green Team Programs at the GSE, KSG, and Divinity School and coordinating the Academic and Administrative sector for the FAS Green Program. Coordinate Green Team Programs at the Kennedy School, Divinity School, Grad School of Education (50%) Plan and run monthly meetings and program calendar. Plan and run outreach campaigns and activities. Liaise with Facilities, Dining Services, IT, and other stakeholder groups to green the school’s administrative operations. Work with Dept Administrators to run green office workshops, assessments, and follow-up at each of these schools. Work closely with the Environmental Procurement Analyst to identify and promote the use of environmentally friendly office supplies. Coordinate the annual Sustainability Pledge campaign Coordinate the Academic and Administrative Sector of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Program (25%) Work with Sector Leader and the FAS GHG Program Manager to: Implement the FAS GHG Program in the Administrative and Academic sector. Develop communication strategies and reports for the sector. Ensure sector meets all annual cycle requirements work with sector members to: Train members on using the GHG reporting and tracking framework. Track building and sector energy use and GHG reductions and ensure all reporting requirements are met. Identify and prioritize new energy conservation measures in the office buildings Coordinate the FAS Green Office Program (25 %): Work toward implementing FAS-wide sustainability guidelines (energy conservation, green cleaning, recycling, green cafeterias, computer services, renovation, new construction); Continue the current occupant engagement programs, e.g. Environmental Competition, Eco-Citizens, Green Tip of the Month, Facilitate communication between building managers and the FAS Energy Team; promote the idea of high performance building renovations; Expand the Green Office Program and assist FAS offices and departments in applying for the Green Office Certification.

Basic Qualifications

Related undergraduate and/or graduate degree. Direct experience in campus sustainability, institutional change, and/or facility energy reduction strategies is preferred. Demonstrated commitment to environmental sustainability; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Interest in building systems (lighting, HVAC, etc.) recommended. Must be creative and entrepreneurial team leader with a high level of energy and initiative; Ability to work as a team player and independently, managing multiple projects simultaneously. Experience with Microsoft Office applications is necessary; UOS requires pre-employment drug, reference and background screening.

Additional Qualifications

Basic graphic design, website development, and data analysis skills are desirable.

Position Summary:

The Harvard Green Campus Initiative provides building design teams throughout Harvard University with a range of advanced services to ensure cost effective green building design and LEED certification. The Harvard Green Campus Initiative (HGCI) is seeking a full time (40 hours per week), term position: Coordinator, Green Campus Building Service - New Construction. There will be large learning component associated with this position to gain full proficiency and fluency in these tasks. 

Duties and Responsibilites:

Reports directly to the Program Manager, HGCI Green Campus Building Service (New Construction).  Coordinates all tasks involved in delivering a range of design and construction consulting services to project teams and clients throughout Harvard University for new construction and renovation projects.  Provides ongoing support managing LEED certification process.  Provides ongoing support completing and reviewing project LEED submittals.  Participates in project meetings and effectively works with teams to ensure understanding and accountability relating to sustainable building goals.  Reviews projects to ensure the Harvard Green Building Guidelines are being met and assists project teams with this effort.  Documents lessons learned and provide content for the online Harvard Green Building Resource:  www.greencampus.harvard.edu/theresource.  Participates as a member of the overall HGCI team, generally contributing to the well being of the organization. 

Requirements:

Qualified applicants will hold a related undergraduate and/or graduate degree, such as in architecture and/or mechanical or electrical engineering and/or construction management; Knowledge of the US Green Building Council LEED Rating System and sustainable design and construction principles is essential, LEED AP preferred; Professional experience with high performance building design, construction administration, specification writing, and construction documents preferred, as is familiarity with a broad range of sustainable technologies; Demonstrated interest through course work or professional experience in sustainability and/or addressing the ecological impacts of building design and construction essential; Qualified applicants must have excellent team skills; must be able to understand and synthesize the thoughts of others, must be able to work in a fast-paced, continually adapting work environment, must have good attention to detail; must be experienced with computer based work and must be very fast learners; Demonstrated attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities;  Excellent writing and editing skills;  Excellent communication skills, with the capacity for developing and maintaining strong client relationships across a highly decentralized university management structure. 

Technology Skills Required: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and the ability to learn software such as AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project Manager, HydroCAD, and eQUEST as needed.
